The UWMD Method

 So lately, since it's actually starting to feel like Spring, I have felt the tug once more to purge stuff! I've used this Depression Era quote in our home before, but I think it's high time it becomes one of our mottos!

I really do love this quote. So, in thinking along these lines, I needed to spruce up Baby Girl's room! We are kinda tight right now on funds, so I have to use what we have! Enter said quote. Here's what we had before. This wasn't awful, but I was tired of looking at the food storage ever time I walked in there. The curtains had been there since we moved in....two years ago. I know. DISGUSTING!

I am proud of our food storage though....

 

We had bought the wire "curtain rod" and the clips last December while my honey and I were in Chicago! We live a minimum of 8 hours from the nearest IKEA and sometimes it kills me. My honey put it up for me without asking where I wanted it, so needless to say, I was nervous!

I used two flat sheets that I had gotten in our church's "No Sale, Garage Sale" we had where people bring their junk and end up taking home junk someone else brought. It's fun! Plus, how can you think to call these awesome sheets junk?

The rest of the room was easy. I used a green flat sheet we had and replaced the yucky curtains (we have lots of sheets). We ended up having to buy this little shelf since we didn't really have a dresser, nor the space to put a dresser. It was cheap and extremely easy to put together, so I'm not complaining. The dresses were hung on an extra curtain rod I had stashed in a closet. Somehow we ended up with extras so I thought this would be perfect for now. Eventually, we will have to think up something else, but for the time being, this works great!

All in all, I say we spent about $36 on this whole thing. The pictures I had from when my oldest was a baby and I had bought them at the dollar store! The lamp was given to us and the rocking chair was my mother's. Excellent! A good use of the UWMD method if I do say so myself!

All But Forgotten!

So it's been a while since I have posted. My mother actually reminded me I had a blog! Thanks mom! And? We've been greatly blessed!

Remember our laundry room? Nice bright orange?

Well, we got cabinets! YEAH! Friends of ours were redoing their kitchen and were going to toss these and my Honey said we would take them. Guess how much they wanted? $0!!!!!!!! We can totally afford that. SOLD!

I know they give off a sort of 70's vibe, and it's not over yet! I have a huge ornate flower frame that will cap the 70's look quite nicely. lol I should get a macrame hanger and put a plant in there. Don'tcha think?

I guess it's not as bad as having this awesome $5 find my Honey scored. It still has the original tag on the bottom....yup! 1969! lol HAHAHAHAHA 

  What can I say? We're eclectic! lol

Shiny Sink!

A friend of mine recently taught a mini class on organization. I'm NOT organized. I'm a wannabe organized neat freak. Wannabe being the most important word. Most of the time, my house is filled with empty snack wrappers, dirty and clean clothes alike - strewn about the room I'm sure - and toys galore! But, my friend is a Flybaby of sorts and does things from the Flylady.

I decided to do it! I can do it right? Right. So, I've been shining my sink and keeping my kitchen clean. YEAH! I've also realized that I never actually cleaned WITH my children so they know HOW to clean things. Nice huh? Ask them to clean and they don't so you get mad. Right? Yeah, they don't know what they're doing either. lol Game plan then, is to clean every room, every thing and spot. Take a picture of it and write detailed instructions. Put them in sheet protectors and into a binder where they can grab the page for the room they are doing and follow the instructions and look at the pictures to make sure it's clean!

I'll have to help them the first few times, but I need to make sure they KNOW HOW! lol Life is great huh?

Problem Pantry!

 Our pantry is absolutely terrible. The kids go in, we dig in and baby chick likes to pull off the food and put it on the floor. Needless to say, when I felt the urge to purge, that's where I went first. After a few hours - yes, hours - I had a lovely pantry. Now? Scare the kids into staying out of it.

The RATK (que Jaws Theme)

 I have to say that I am BOTH looking forward to this room and dreading it. With what I want to do, it'll be a lot of work, painting and pure fun! On the other hand, we have to put everything away - or as much as we can - first. Ugh.

Right now, as you can see, it's a colonel mustard kind of color and it does NOT sit well with my tastes. I am currently thinking Turquoise. Yeah, with yellow and brown accents. Yep...purr.

Junk everywhere...can't make myself throw it out. I NEED IT ALL! lol

So the back....I drew this to share my vision - and also so Honey can see it too. I guess I can't explain it so it sounds logical....or even possible. lol

I want shelves floor to ceiling in a modern, modular kind of way. I want those three cubes to have a small track light where two will point to the bottom of the box....where our rock collection will be, and one to highlight some of the kids' art I've framed. The rest will hold books and knick-knacks. I'm not sure what color the shelves will be. Probably the same honey brown as the molding.

Here, the previous owner have some sort of makeshift closet? I would like to enclose that into two or three sections where one is drawers and shelves, the second would have shelves on the bottom and a small rack to hang things on the top. If we do a third, it would be shelves - but they would all have doors and look like cabinets. We'll see. It's a lofty goal - or as my honey would say, an expensive goal. lol

As a side note, do you like my Blue and Gold Creampuffs that I took to Karate Kids' banquet? He's a Wolf now!

Ambitious Ambitions.....Uh... ok.

Ok, so I THOUGHT I was going to get the room done, but I didn't. It was taking a long time with details I didn't think I was going to do. That's normal for me. Also, I got sidetracked and put together my bathroom upstairs. Hey, it happens.

Wanna hear a joke? Ok, do you know why there aren't any boxes in the bathroom?? Because their all out in the hall!!! What? Not funny? I didn't think so either.

 My Honey says he wants me ("You are GOING to do this room next.") to start working on the kitchen next. (Me: "But I don't want to! Don't you think I should work on OUR room next?"

Him: "NO, uh-uh, nope. You need to get this room organized! It's a mess in here!" 

Me: "But I don't want to!!!" yes..I was using our children's patented whining....

Him: "Tough, get to work." Snap, snap of fingers. 

BTW I did whack him and remind him that I AM NOT A DOG and DO NOT SNAP AT ME! lol)

So, I guess I will be tackling our KITCHEN!! Remember it? Full of JUNK! lol It's better after honey took a bunch of boxes upstairs but still, it's a room I dread. I think I'd rather tackle my craft room!!

Yeah. WAY WORSE! But SOOOO like Christmas....where you get everything you LIKE! lol

Inspiration For My Posts

Things I want to accomplish:

#1 Lose Weight - I want to look and feel better, plus I want more children and I would like to be in a healthy place before I get pregnant again.

#2 Be More Organized - Change my opinions on housework and simplify my life.

#3 Be a Better Mom and Wife - I want to find ways to stop yelling, getting angry, nagging and more. I want to strive to be a woman my family is proud of.

#4 Become a Happier Person - I have noticed that my view on life gets more and more depressing. I need to find ways to change that and influence the way I think for the better.

#5 Develop My Talents - I want to further my love of crafting and actually finish my projects.

#6 Stay Motivated and Endure to the End - I want to learn how to finish things. It was also the one thing my husband thought I should work on. : )

#7 Grow Closer to My Heavenly Father and Savior - I know that without this, I can not accomplish anything else. I also know that I have left my Heavenly Father and Savior out of my life many times and was slow to remember them.
